Much has been made of the Pavement connection (unavoidable when Stephen Malkmus often helps with vocal duties), but the Silver Jews music is a distinct entity. It's the sound of a dry, absurdist manifesto delivered by an enormously talented writer as the shuffle and scrape of the American underground plays underfoot.
