His other brothers, Ronald and Michael, performed throughout the Detroit area and earned an opening slot for gospel godfather Andrae Crouch in 1979, who later signed them to Light Records as the Winans. Having lent his talents as a vocalist, songwriter and producer to a number of projects over the years, Marvin Winans chose to devote his efforts to the ministry in 1989, founding the Perfecting Church, a congregation that has since grown to over 3,000 members.
