Leonard Nimoy will forever be linked to the character he played on the mania-inducing '60s sci-fi show Star Trek -- namely, the half-man/half-Vulcan first mate Spock. While on the show, and after its demise, Nimoy released several albums of original material and covers of then-current pop songs. While his musical legacy amounts to pure novelty, Nimoy does actually know how to sing, and he often sounds similar to mega-selling crooner Roger Whitaker. In any case, Nimoy is certainly more of a true "singer" than his cohort William Shatner, and his music, while campy, is always a lot of fun to hear.

Mumia Abu-Jamal is the Philadelphia journalist convicted of shooting a police officer in 1982. Before Pennsylvania passed legislation banning journalists from visiting death row, Abu-Jamal recorded a series of essays on a variety of political and socio-political topics. The political Alternative Tentacles label compiled a handful of these essays -- all of which highlight Abu-Jamal's insightful ides and succinct use of language - into one very strong, extremely passionate Spoken Word album.

Judi Bari was an Earth First! activist who was the victim of a motion-detonated bomb placed under her car. And while the injuries she sustained that day didn't kill her, the experience opened her up to a highly publicized smear campaign. A year later, after the F.B.I. and Oakland Police department failed to produce evidence connecting her with the bombing -- their assertion for the better part of a year -- she sued them. Bari died of breast cancer in 1997, but the Alternative Tentacles label released an album of speeches Bari made exposing destructive corporate logging practices.
