The undisputed king of the rock song parody, Yankovic has been inducing cringes and laughs in equal proportion since the early 1980s. Not an especially gifted singer (to put it politely), he relies instead on cornball puns, clever videos and sheer trial and error. After a string of '80s classics like the Michael Jackson takeoffs "Fat" and "Eat It," things started to look a little ugly, as anyone who saw the film UHF can attest. Undaunted, he bounced back with '90s efforts such as "Smells Like Nirvana" and the Coolio parody "Amish Paradise." In 2006, after once again losing his clout as a pop culture commentator, a parody of Chamillionaire's "Ridin'" (as "White and Nerdy") landed Al in the top 10 for the first time ever. He's best taken in small doses -- sitting through an entire CD might be considered the musical equivalent of cooling off on a 95 degree day with a glass of warm gravy. Still, whether he's busting out schwag rhymes about computer software ("It's All About the Pentiums") or resurrecting unwelcome oldies (the "Jurassic Park" parody of "MacArthur Park"), Weird Al proves that stupidity, when used wisely, can truly be a virtue.

Begun as a sort of professional mix-tape service for party planners who needed a quick, easy music solution, the label now supplies karaoke tapes, kids' music and covers of hits both recent and classic.

Have you ever been listening to an oldies station and almost choked upon hearing "Ahab The Arab"? You were probably thinking to yourself (especially in the wake of September 11), "Who could have written such a song?" Well, Ray Stevens has been writing such novelty (and parody) material since 1961. That's right, he predated such geniuses as Weird Al Yankovick and Cledus T. Judd. For a while it seemed Stevens was entertaining notions of hanging up his novelty hat -- he found chart success with a cover of Kris Kristofferson's "Sunday Morning Coming Down" and his own songs "Everything Is Beautiful" and "The Streak." Fear not; Stevens returned to Country Humor in the '80s and has stayed there ever since.

When their first album earned the distinction of being the best-selling comedy album of 1993, the floodgates were thrown open for people copying the Jerky Boys' shtick of foul-mouthed, bruising prank calls. They took the crass humor and rude stereotype of the typical roughneck New York City citizen (made popular by Andrew Dice Clay) to a new level. Verbal abuse is the name of their game, calling up unsuspecting businesses and individuals, berating them on the phone to sometimes hilarious results. After five albums and a movie that flopped, the Jerky Boys are still at it, beating their one joke like the dead horse it is.

While William Shatner's discography may be slight, his impact and influence on popular culture is not. Near the end of his run as Captain Kirk on Star Trek, Shatner recorded a spoken word album of popular songs of the day, including covers of "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds." Roundly ridiculed as the highest level of camp when it was released, the record struck a chord with fans and at least a few Madison Avenue advertising executives some 20 years later. In the 1990s, Shatner played a spoken word leader of a postmodern band in a series of ironic ads for online travel site Priceline. These ads led to more interest from musicians, including power-pop pianist Ben Folds. In 2004, Shatner returned to the scene with Has Been, a collection of original songs co-written with collaborator Folds. The album contains a nifty cover of Pulp's "Common People," but the strength of the record is Shatner's original songs. He explores his place in the world ("It Hasn't Happened Yet"), his failings as a father ("That's Me Trying") and personal tragedy ("What Have You Done") in a compelling manner.

Easily the funniest sock puppet of all time, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog
is the product of Robert Smigel, the same demented weirdo behind SNL's "TV
Funhouse" bits. A cigar-chomping, poodle-humping misanthropic cross
between Shari Lewis' Lambchop, Don Rickles and a Russian mobster, Triumph
first appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien in the early '00s. He became an instant favorite on the strength of his repeated use of the
phrase, "…for me to poop on!" (As in, "Conan, the show is great and you are
a great comedian … FOR ME TO POOP ON!") Why Triumph speaks with a Russian
accent -- and why it's funny hearing a sock puppet say the word "poop" -- are questions left open to speculation. What needs no explanation, however, is the hilarity that ensues any time Smigel is unleashed on the public with the dog and a microphone. Smigel uses Triumph as a screen to gleefully cross the line at every opportunity, mercilessly attacking nerds waiting in line for Star
Wars and lulling such celebrities as Jon Bon Jovi and Heather Locklear
into a sense of inclusive fun before referring to them as either has-beens or
whores. The results have made for some of the best TV since The Simpsons first appeared. Triumph's album of songs, crank calls, and stand-up sketches, Come Poop With Me, came out in late 2003. People unable to bear extreme vulgarity are advised to steer clear of it. Everyone else needs to hear "Benji's Queer," "Underage Bichon" and "I Keed" at least a thousand times.

Like one of Shakespeare's jesters who plays the fool but is actually wise, Tiny Tim achieved fame and fortune by playing the clown. Getting his start as a street performer in New York City, Herbert Khaury developed a variety of personae before settling on the herky-jerky, ukulele-plucking, perennially innocent soprano for which he is famous. Tiny Tim's signature song, "Tiptoe Through the Tulips," also became his swan song -- he suffered a fatal heart attack while performing the number in 1996.

As a losing contestant on American Idol, William Hung won the hearts of millions with his spirited if ugly performance. As Hung himself puts it on his album: "I may not be the best singer in the world, but I sing from my heart…I enjoy what I do -- not for money, not for fame, I just enjoy singing." It's that message of belief in oneself that has translated to the general public and undoubtedly fueled his surprising popularity. Imagine your least talented but funniest friend taking on such pop radio hits as "She Bangs" and "Hotel California" at a karaoke bar -- that's the gist of Hung's 2004 debut, Inspiration. Just when you thought it was safe to go back into a karaoke bar, Hung unveiled the holiday album, Hung for the Holidays. Here, Christmas standards were interspersed with Hung's strangely loveable snippets of inspiration, which climaxed with an over-the-top version of Queen's "We Are the Champions" included as a hidden track. Just after 2005's American Idol was crowned, Hung's Miracle: Happy Summer From William Hung was released. This third, logic-defying album included standards such as "Take Me Out To the Ballgame" and "Surfin' U.S.A.," as well as "Achy Break Heart," a song that, arguably, need never be recorded ever again.

Spanish teen sensations Las Ketchup are four sisters– (Lola, Lucia, Pilar and Rocio Munoz) who are the daughters of renowned flamenco guitarist Tomate. (Get it? Tomate is "tomato" in Spanish, ergo "ketchup.") Dangerously cute and well versed in delivering high-speed nonsense lyrics, they've clearly been primed for international stardom. "The Ketchup Song" (or "Asereje") became the breakout hit of 2002 everywhere but in the U.S., where it generated some buzz, although not with the fervor of, say, "Macarena." But Las Ketchup may yet survive one-hit-wonder status; little sister Rocio joined the group in 2006, and their quadruple-voiced attack, peppy Andalusian and reggae influences, and sleek lounge vibe on 2006's Un Blodymary sound extremely fresh.

Leonard Nimoy will forever be linked to the character he played on the mania-inducing '60s sci-fi show Star Trek -- namely, the half-man/half-Vulcan first mate Spock. While on the show, and after its demise, Nimoy released several albums of original material and covers of then-current pop songs. While his musical legacy amounts to pure novelty, Nimoy does actually know how to sing, and he often sounds similar to mega-selling crooner Roger Whitaker. In any case, Nimoy is certainly more of a true "singer" than his cohort William Shatner, and his music, while campy, is always a lot of fun to hear.
